They fulfill each other by doing what their crush will never do to them or let them do (AKA sexual stuff.) However, the sexual scenes are not just some hollow fanservice, since these scenes serve to reveal the character’s inner thoughts and desires. There is no possibility of love between them, since their relationship will be over the moment one of them fall in love. As Hanabi and Mugi find their feelings too difficult to handle, they use each other to escape into their own fantasies. The story is as painful as a story of unrequited love can get. At least the voice acting is not some high-pitched annoying stuff. The art style is nice, the music is fitting, and the animation is very detailed. This show is very popular in Japan and I found the manga in its own section in every bookstore when I visited Japan. As Hanabi and Mugi discover each other’s feelings that cannot blossom, they use each other as a stand-in for who they really love. However, Onii-chan is in love with the music teacher, Akane, who is Awaya Mugi’s crush. The story follows Yasuraoka Hanabi, a high school girl who fell in love with ‘Onii-chan’, her childhood friend and homeroom teacher. Kuso-I mean, Kuzu no Honkai is a drama anime about unrequited love and loneliness. Having seen and then ignored the manga on Crunchyroll, I was eager to have a look at what sounded like an interesting premise for anime adaptation.I told my friend I’m interested in watching Kuzu no Honkai, and the first advice she gave me was: Don’t watch it in class.īeing such a great friend, I went ahead and watched it anyway. Then at the other end of the spectrum we’ve got ridiculous fantasy shows epitomised by the abhorrent Hand Shakers (the article on that one will be scathing, I promise).īut this evening I saw the proverbial silver lining to this season in Scum’s Wish or Kuzu no Honkai. On the one hand we’ve got some bland rom-coms like Masamune-Kun’s Revenge (if that’s even a romance!?) or Fuuka (which I’ve yet to start but appears underwhelming even from the promo material). Unfortunately I can’t help but agree with the majority of people and say that original shows this January are a huge let down – though there are some big name titles getting sequels that have helped lessen the issues ( KonoSuba, Blue Exorcist and Chaos Head most notably). Over the past two weeks the Winter 2017 season’s shows have been airing their first episodes and the anime community has reacted largely with disappointment. Though I’ve completed 10 anime according to MAL, 4 of them were movies or specials and 3 had been shows that I’ve been watching for a while.Ĭontinue reading January in Review → anime fate apocrypha fate grand order Fate stay night If My Heart Had Wings kuzu no honkai new years resolutions recap scum's wish visual novels wordpress Quite the improvement, right?ĭespite writing more articles in January than any other month I’ve had this blog, I haven’t really watched that much anime.

There’s something quite exciting about the start of a new anime season, and winter 2017 was no exception especially as I was just getting this blog back up and running again! January saw me finish a few shows as well as pick up some new titles as well some that have been on my plan to watch list for a while. After sleeping with a past lover, Mugi begins to question the extent for his feelings for Hanabi which, of course, are thoroughly rejected in the way that we have come to expect from our lead female and narrator.Ĭontinue reading Episode Focus: Scum’s Wish episode 5, Destruction Baby → dark anime hanabi kuzu no honkai mugi scum's wish unrequited love winter 2017 Hanabi is desperate for anyone to the point where it has become hard to tell if she still has genuine feelings for Narumi at all. From the outset, you could see that it was a show that was going to be dark, depressing and devoid of any hope or redemption for it’s main characters. Not only has this tone been maintained, but episode 5 has definitely been the darkest so far.

With one exception – Scum’s Wish (or Kuzu no Honkai).įive episodes later I can’t say anything else from this season has grabbed me at all but Scum’s Wish is proving that I was right to be excited about it. About three weeks ago I wrote a first impressions for the Winter 2017 season and to be honest, I wasn’t that impressed.
